Konig, JR stated the medium ran closer to true size but I can tell you the Large is more like an XL.

The official contest announcement is up!
Looks like there can be 23 winners, and there is a separate category for Costumes (3 Winners there).

Separate costume category should curb some of the complaining that usually shows up in Riverside.

TBH, I have to agree... Last year the art book was awesome, for instance. Too bad I didn't place. >_>
Hopefully I have a shot at the workshop one ^_^
(Although with the shirts thrown in.... If I had to, I couldn't pick between the two right now *LOL*)
Different halloween mini would have been nice too, though I'm not sure what or which NPC.
As for the headset... I'm not familiar with Razer's stuff, but just a quick comparison online with other high-end gaming headsets shows that an $80 headset is nothing amazing.
My wireless normal headset cost only 10 dollars less than that.
Nevertheless, thanks Anet for running the contest again ^_^
Sure made me step WAAY outside of my comfort zone for this one
EDIT: I do want the mini mad king's guard just as bad as last year though *lol*

I didn't actually have a strong visual image of what I was heading for before starting this, so it's a bit of an experiment.
It's strange, sometimes I find myself starting with the background, sometimes with a focal figure/character. I think it depends on the piece. In this case I only had a fuzzy idea for the setting (see above: Pumpkin field on all Hallows' eve), but I knew I wanted a Necromancer.
WIP [ 1] [ 2]
Having her pose sketched out helped me think about how I could arrange the background.
WIP [ 3] [ 4] [ 5]
I should work on trying to pick out my colour palette in advance, but my methods always seem to spiral into a more chaotic process of randomly choosing colours on the spot and throwing them around until they look like they belong together.
Her skin needs lots more work with shading, and to be less pale compared to everything else.

Its looking pretty
I think it might be interesting if you give the background a more of a watercolor feel...

I really liked the Razer Guild Wars branded Death Adder mouse I got in 2007. Once we fix the cord again my husband will be back to using it. (Our son found scissors..... yeeeeaaah.....)
I could really use a headset..... my Logitech finally died after 6 or so years. Back to work! 3 weeks left!

In regards to my progress, no scan atm, but I got stick figures and light detail in place of what I want atm - basically, my ele with a floating corpse to his left and another to his right walking down a path of impaled heads (or something of the like, not certain on the background - also may include flames under the two corpses) with a shadowy head in the sky (with red eyes - designed to be like a nightmare). Also going to include Old Ascalonian text in the sky in front of the shade. I caught a cold yesterday so I can't focus on what to draw (or write) that well, so I hope I can get over this in time to finish the dang thing. I'm so behind! x.x

I very very much want a mini mad king's guard.
Thanks Kiya for telling us your experience with the Razer mouse.
I have a laptop, and I use the touchpad mouse (if I do need to use an actual mouse, I use the one that came with my Intuos tablet).
I just got a new wireless headset, because the old one (wired Logitech I think) got sabotaged by out kittens. yeeeeaaah....

So I've pretty much worked on mine in one intense stretch this weekend... once I start something I have a tendency get a little carried away. Which is bad really, because not only do I end up not taking rest breaks but I don't have time away to be able to look at it with fresh eyes.
Worked on her skin more until there was actually some three dimensionality to it. Hopefully it's less pale now and doesn't pop out of the dark picture so much?
WIP [7]
Got stuck into working on the armour. I chose Bonelace (aka Cabal) because I wanted a challenge with the sheer netting. It was probably the most fun part to do.
WIP [8] [9] [10] [11]
Kinda feel like there still needs to be more shadows on her face, but I rather like her having porcelain skin... dilemmas.
Detail
Not sure whether I feel like it's finished yet, but further work will depend on whether I have free time between now and the end of the contest (uni holidays finish this week). Critique would be very welcome though. (Thankyou for the feedback actionjack and Thistle. And I'm glad you say that because eerie is the look I was aiming for rather than spooky, which I hoped to achieve by making it evening in stead of night time).

Started the basis of the armor pieces, need to fix length on chest piece. Here is where it is currently next to what I'm hoping of having done by the 9th. Tomorrow I will fix the chest piece and finish its parts, add the shoulder pads, and work on the gauntlets. Aiming to have all the craft foam done by Sunday night so Monday I can start spraying it. Once he has his cape it will really look a lot better.

Silverfire: Looking good with the colors! My suggestion would be to study her pose more carefully, and how she fits into the background. Right now she seems to be pasted into the picture, because the way her body is positioned doesn't correspond to the slant of the ground. (More specifically, the leg on the left side of the pic.)
I tried to use the puppet warp and some other things to show you a bit better how she's look more in synch. Please excuse the wobbly looking legs, puppet warp has a tendency to do that. Hope this helps!
EDIT: I just checked that pic again, so sorry for cutting up your figure there like that >_< Illustrating something with a quick work is still not something I can do very well yet. :S
Kiya: The costume is looking very good! I don't know anything about costume making, so unfortunately I have no idea about suggestions... It was really nice to see your quick drawing on the pic posted, how you envision the final look. It's really useful for me to see what you're going for.
Thistle: The armor's final color will be a brighter, metallic kind of poison green. The eye and armor colors are going to be different.
Marshy, Penguin, Tommy, thank you so much for your comments! It means a lot!

Ok got rid of the peepee sitting on the pumpkin, wasnt guildwarshie enough.
New idea for the scene is Mad Thorn King standing on the pumpkin, with one arm in his chest, like Napoleon and 2 Mad King's Guards on the side, with one of those haunted houses in the back. Bit more scenery then just the little bushes I made
Let me know wether you think this is a better idea or not!
